Information Technology Coordinator, George A. Smathers Libraries,
University of Florida The Information Technology Coordinator (ITC)
serves the computing and networking needs of the Humanities and Social
Sciences Services Department (H&SSS). Full time evening and weekend
position; reports to H&SSS Electronic Services Coordinator.
Responsibilities include: support management of the computing and
networking needs of the H&SSS, technical supervision of the Electronic
Reference Center, management of Machine-Readable Data File collection,
training of staff and patrons in use of products and machinery.
Qualifications: A Masters degree in library science, computer science or
related field or a Bachelor's degree and three years related professional
experience, extensive knowledge and experience with new technologies,
teaching and communication skills, and experience with DOS, the Internet
and LANs is required. Experience in public service, advanced degree,
experience working with statistical files, Windows 95 and providing
computer help desk services is preferred. Salary and Benefits: $28,000
per annum minimum. Competitive benefits (no state or local income tax).

Systems Librarian
Innovative is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual who enjoys
working in a fast-paced, team oriented department. Responsibilities
include: providing daily telephone support to INNOPAC system users,
investigating, testing and diagnosing problems using UNIX tools and
Innovative system utilities, testing and installing software fixes,
enhancements, features, and system upgrades on customer systems. This
position monitors system reports and troubleshoots to resolve problems
identified by the reports and performs special projects requested by
users, ie., indexing projects, special tape loads of records, migrations
and conversions. This position works closely with Innovative Programming
and Technical Support staff to resolve reported software problems.
Requirements include: MLS or equivalent; sound understanding of library
practices and procedures. Knowledge of MARC format and cataloging,
minimum one year of professional experience. Demonstrated experience in
one or more of the following; library technical services, data or
technical processing, or reference in public, academic or special
libraries. Knowledge of UNIX a plus. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills; strong commitment to service. Demonstrated ability
in conflict resolution, problem solving, and priority management.

The University of South Florida, which enrolls more than
37,000 student is a comprehensive, innovative university
located in a large, growing metropolitan area. The School
of Library and Information Science is a dynamic program
which has doubled its enrollment during the past five years
and graduates over 100 master's students each year. The
program has been continuously accredited since 1976 and
recently the ALA extended accreditation through 2002.
The School of Library and Information Science is accepting
applications for the following positions for the 1997-98
academic year:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the area of information services,
resources, and retrieval; full-time tenure track (Position
#77440). Minimum Qualifications: (a) an earned doctorate in
library/information science or related field, (b)
professional scholarly productivity, (c) concentration in
information systems, services, resources, and retrieval with
specializations such as sci-tech, health sciences or
business. Preferred Qualifications: (a) successful graduate
level teaching experience, (b) relevant professional
experience. This position will including teaching
responsibility and oversight of courses in basic information
services, resources, and retrieval, plus one or more areas
of specialization such as health sciences, business, or
science and technology. All faculty are expected to work in
the School's distance education program. Salary is $37,000
negotiable for an academic year plus additional compensation

in inter-institutional cooperation and distance education
(Position #77134). Minimum Qualifications: ALA-accredited
master's degree; earned doctorate in library/information
science or related field; relevant teaching experience;
competence in current and emerging technologies to support
distance learning. Preferred: Experience in development of
inter-institutional cooperation and institutional coalition
building; experience in grant writing. Duties: Development
of programmatic emphases including medical informatics,
community college learning resource centers, and
telecommunication planning. Work to develop cooperative
arrangement with other state universities to deliver
ALA-accredited master's degree programs and/or school
library media certification to make maximum use of each
university's respective strength and resources. Focus on
adult learners and alternative methods of educational
delivery through various distance education mechanisms such
as internet, audio, and television. Work with these
academic and administrative units at USF: Distance and
Technology Mediated Learning; Open University; University
Library; Health Sciences Center; Center for Teaching
Enhancement; and Academic Computing. Teaching assignment on
USF campuses and remote sites. Teaching areas to be drawn
from: Information services, telecommunications, technical
services, management of distance education programs.
Research appropriate to tenure-earning track. Salary is
$39,000 negotiable for academic year plus additional
