DUTIES: The Head of Technical Services will
oversee a Unit charged with implementation and operation
of centralized technical processing for CUNY libraries
through a combination of on-site and out-sourced work.
The Unit's responsibilities will initially encompass
cataloging and authority control. Through extensive
planning, responsibilities of the Unit will expand to
encompass additional library technical services functions.
The Head of Technical Services' specific responsibilities
will include overall Unit management, monitoring vendor
performance and quality control, creating management
reports, and interacting with advisory committees and
campus liaisons.
QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive experience required in all
aspects of library technical processing (including
materials acquisitions and book trade, cataloging and
physical treatment) and facility with OCLC and Classic
NOTIS LMS. Minimum six years experience in technical
processing and management, with good interpersonal and
communications skills. Candidate should be practical and
production oriented, thoroughly versed in emerging
technologies that increase technical services efficiency,
flexible and able to change course as alternatives change
and new opportunities present themselves. ALA
accredited masters degree in library or information
science preferred.
SALARY: $45,672 - $60,212 (depending on
qualifications and experience).

DEPARTMENT: Office of Library Services
DUTIES: Reporting to the Head of Technical
Services, a university-wide unit,Cataloger will catalog
(and/or provide out-sourced solutions for) materials
lacking catalog copy. Cataloger will interact with
vendors selected to provide CUNY with cataloging services
and ensure that standards for acceptable out-sourced
cataloging are met. Cataloger will become familiar
with campus cataloging policies and practices and ensure
maximum access to materials, as well as finding and
implementing solutions for cataloging gift materials, rush
materials and reserve materials. Duties will include
training of non-professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will have a
baccalaureate degree and at least six years
of original cataloging experience, reading knowledge of
foreign languages (especially Spanish and French); and be
expert in MARC format, AACR2, NOTIS LMS, and OCLC.
Candidate must be totally at home in a fully
networked cataloger's workstation environment. Candidate
should be practical and production oriented, flexible in
approach, willing to experiment and change workflows and
practices as new solutions present themselves. ALA
accredited masters degree in library or information
science preferred.
SALARY: $39,003 - $55,854 (depending on
qualifications and experience).

DEPARTMENT: Office of Library Services
DUTIES: Reporting to the Head of Technical
Services, the Authority Control Librarian will be
responsible for the ongoing maintenance of access points
in the University's online public access catalog, CUNY+.
Working with a staff of part-time non-professionals, the
Authority Control Librarian will change name and subject
headings as they are changed by the Library of Congress.
Working with the Integrated Library Systems team, will
establish a schedule for identifying and fixing headings.
The Authority Control Librarian will be responsible for
interacting with campus serials librarians to ensure
consistency in CUNY+ serial and periodical cataloging.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will be an
experienced cataloger with a baccalaureate
degree and at least four years experience, have a good
basis in MARC record structure (especially authority
records), and be conversant with Library of Congress
practices and AACR2. Candidate should be practical
and production oriented. ALA accredited masters degree in
library or information science preferred.
SALARY: $32,373 - $52,213 (depending on
qualifications and experience).
