LITERACY WEBMASTER/PROJECT COORDINATOR
The New England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC), based at World
Education, is the lead agency to develop a dynamic Web project for the
National Institute for Literacy's Literacy Information and Communication
System (LINCS). This Web project will serve State Literacy Resource
Centers or their equivalents in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, as
well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands ("Region I"). NELRC/World
Education is seeking a Project Coordinator to manage all aspects of the
Web project's design, implementation and training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee Web site design, primarily for the Region I Hub and
secondarily for the 14 State Literacy Resource Centers in Region I
("the Consortium").
2. Oversee the technical management of the site, including integration
of approved content onto the Web site, response form and script
implementation, file management and site maintenance, database
management and coordination of retrieval of pertinent information
from the site to end-users, and archiving and record management.
3. Convene and co-facilitate Region I Advisory Council meetings.
4. Build and maintain the Region I Consortium.
5. Build and maintain linkages with literacy providers in Region I.
6. Prepare quarterly reports to the funding source and Consortium
members.
7. Maintain communication with the funding source and the other
LINCS Hubs.
8. Work closely with the Region I Hub staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Five or more years experience in MIS, library science or adult
literacy.
2. Experience and familiarity with a variety of computer systems
(Mac, PC, Unix).
3. Advanced Internet knowledge; proven skills in HTML, Java, Perl,
C, C++ and information design techniques.
4. Knowledge of adult literacy issues and principles highly
desireable.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to organize multifaceted projects.
7. Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
8. Self-directed.
SALARY
This position is full-time. Salary is $40,000/year, with excellent benefits.

INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IN THE HUMANITIES
AND
THE ELECTRONIC TEXT CENTER
IATH and the ETC are looking for a senior technical support person
to fulfill the following tasks in a lively and high-profile humanities
computing environment:
* SGML and data standards: Work directly with the Electronic
Text Center and the Institute for Advanced Technology in the
Humanities to implement and modify SGML DTDS.
Investigate emerging tools for Unicode, and related
character-set and font issues, consulting with appropriate
personnel to understand the programming needs for projects
* Scriptwriting: Write scripts in appropriate programming
languages (Perl and C) to support text-processing and CGI
processes for Web delivery of SGML data, and to
provide data conversion and ensure data integrity.
* Staff/Fellow Training: Develop and implement plans for
training users of Unix, PC, and Mac platforms. Perform training
in group and individual settings as required.
* Problem Solving/Advising: Provide day-to-day support for
utilization of computing resources. Review new software
packages to determine their usefulness.
* Professional Development: Attend appropriate conferences,
workshops, courses, etc. to further knowledge of developments in
both humanities computing and user support, and research new
developments in data standards and delivery.
