Subject: position available--MI
The University of Detroit Mercy's Libraries/Media Services encourages
qualified candidates to apply for the position of Director of Media
Services. The Director reports to the Dean of Libraries and is
responsible for providing administrative leadership to direct the
services, resources, and facilities encompassing all media functions
within the Libraries/Media Services.
RESPONSIBLITIES: consult with and advise University community
regarding the design, use, selection, and creation of media support
for teaching and learning; evaluate and communicate current
developments in instructional and communication media to the
appropriate members of the University; interface, as appropriate,
with external and internal constituentcies regarding all manner
of media-related activities, needs, facilities, and services;
serve on Libraries/Media Services, University, and community
committees, as well as participate in appropriate local, regional,
and national professional organizations; assist the Dean in budget
preparation, fund raising, grant writing, and in the development
and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures; and plan
with the Dean for the re-organization of media services within
Libraries/Media Services, the culmination for which is expected
in August, 1997.
QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in instructional technology, library
science, or equivalent is preferred; five years experience in educational
or administrative setting including significant supervisory role;
excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work
harmoniously and productively with diverse individuals and groups.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: salary commensurate with experience; choice of
BC/BS or HMO, TIAA/CREF, generous vacation, tuition remission.

Systems Support Specialist IV -- Iowa State University Library
Rank: P15
Appointment Conditions: Full-time, 12 month, Professional and
Scientific status.
Description: Under the general direction of the Assistant Director
for Automated Systems, this position manages the Unix database
servers and search interfaces that are part of the library's newly
expanded SCHOLAR information system and serves as the Library's
Webmaster.
Qualifications:
Required: B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent
information technology program. A knowledge of the Unix operating
system, Unix system administration, TCP/IP networking protocols,
the C and PERL programming languages, HTML, and client/server
applications. Three to five years experience installing and
maintaining server software, with the conversion and management of
complex databases (MARC, SGML, ASN.1), and with information
standards and protocols (Z39.50, Z39.58).
Salary: $31,042 minimum, depending upon qualifications and
experience.
Benefits: TIAA/CREF, excellent group medical, dental and life
insurance, 24 working days vacation and 18 days sick leave per
fiscal year.
