        Georgetown University -- Lauinger Library
        Assistant to the University Librarian (Assistant Librarian)

General Description: Reporting to the University Librarian, the
Assistant to the University Librarian will work with the
University Librarian and the Library's Executive Council to
advance the Library's mission and to become acquainted
with a broad spectrum of issues related to the management
of a large research library.  The responsibilities of the
position will include: coordinating special library-wide
projects, such as identifying standard statistics to be
collected by each department; conducting statistical
analyses; drafting and revising reports, studies, and other
documents; coordinating the continued development of the
Library's long- and short-range strategic planning; writing
grant proposals; assisting in the management of the Library's
public relations program; and providing support to the staff
development program.

Position requirements: ALA-accredited MLS and two or more
years professional experience in an academic or research
library.  Ability to plan, organize and implement projects;
understanding of the service philosophy of a university library
to users at all levels; broad knowledge of library and
information services and technologies; specific knowledge of
statistics; excellent communication skills, both written and
oral; experience in analyzing complex systems; ability to
bring people of different backgrounds together to achieve
mutually desired objectives.  Interest in participating in a
dynamic environment necessary.

Salary: $33,000 to $35,000 annually depending upon
qualifications

Head Cataloger

Portland State University Library seeks nominations and applications
for the position of Head Cataloger.  Reporting to the Assistant Director
for Technical Services, this position administers the Cataloging Section
comprised of 4 professional librarians, 1 management service and 11.5
classified staff.  The PSU Library has holdings of approximately 1 million
volumes and 10,000 serials subscriptions and standing orders.  The
Library uses the Sirsi integrated library system and is a member of WLN.

RESPONSIBLE FOR overseeing the daily operation of the section;
ensuring the establishment of monographic and serials bibliographic
records, and the integration of records into the Library's OPAC; overseeing
the materials preparation, repair and binding operations; planning,
preparing and analyzing statistical and financial reports; training,
coordinating and evaluating staff; planning and developing procedures
for the improvement of work processes; maintaining communication and
encouraging the exchange of ideas.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  ALA accredited Master of Library
Science degree.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A minimum of 3 years experience cataloging materials
of various types and formats in a medium to large academic library.  At
least 2 years experience administering a cataloging department or
database management unit.  Mastery of MARC, AACR2 rules and interpretations,
LC subject cataloging and classification, and LCSH/name
authority control.  Strong supervisory, analytical, and organizational
skills.  Demonstrated experience with one of the national bibliographic
utilities and with a local integrated system.  Familiarity with European
languages as well as bibliographic terms in other languages.  Excellent
interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to provide
leadership in a computer-intensive environment.  Ability to meet academic
tenure and promotion requirements.

RANK:  Assistant Professor (faculty status; 1.0 FTE tenure track position;
12 month contract)

SALARY/BENEFITS:  Commensurate with experience.  Minimum $45,000.
Primary benefits include a choice of medical plans (Blue Cross/Blue Shield
or HMO options), several retirement plans, 176 vacation hours, and staff

OIS is a dynamic and challenging work environment and is increasingly
involved in the development and support of UNIX-based applications.
Coherent management and support of UNIX systems has become vital.

The UNIX system administrator/programmer will serve as a senior resource
person for UNIX support functions.  Responsibilities will include:
*       acting as system administrator for 7+ UNIX servers;
*       consulting with applications and operations staff to assist in
        establishing a coherent development and production environment;
*       installing, maintaining and customizing utilities and services;
*       providing application operations support for UNIX-based
applications;
*       serving as a consultant on development projects;

ASSISTANT SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN

provides support for all library automation activities.

day-to-day support for the Library's computer systems,
