Position Opening
Head, Computer Media Services
Ehrman Medical Library
New York University Medical Center
The Head of the Ehrman Medical Library Media Center is
responsible for the administration and management of the
Librarys Computer Media Services and integrating its use
successfully into the educational, patient care and research
programs of NYU Medical Center. This is a tenure track position
and reports to the Head, Medical Library Informatics Group.
Responsibilities
Supervises the administration and management of the Computer
Media Center, which includes 2 FTE permanent staff, and 3 FTE
student and part-time staff. The Computer Media Center houses open
access Macintosh and Windows computers, printers, slide printers,
video and sound equipment, and other media resources.
Sets priorities for the work of the department
Insures the appropriate level of service is provided
Monitors policies and procedures for effectiveness
Manages budget of the Computer Media Center
Works with the faculty, the Library Medical Informatics Group, and
other interested Medical Center groups, to evaulate and implement
audiovisual and educational software support. Manages and prioritizes
equipment for instructional programs. Markets services and collections
of the Computer Media Center within the Medical Center.
Participates in library educational programs as software/media
resource expert, as well as giving instruction in the classroom
and library settings.
Participates in librarys planning and evaluation efforts to
provide effective and coordinated service programs. Works as a
resource, team leader or participant as appropriate on various
library projects. Represents the library on committees with the
Medical Center, and participates actively in the profession. Works on
the Library Information Desk as needed.
Essential skills required: Excellent written and verbal
communications skills, supervisory and management experience,
comfortable in a team environment and able to cope with a rapidly
changing environment. Patience.
Must have masters degree in library or information science, or
in a related field such as educational technology. Strong
supervisory skills, 3-5 years experience in a library or learning
resource environment. Strong computer applications skills in both
the DOS/Windows and Macintosh environments
Minimum salary: $40,000.
