Library Systems Manager
The Tampa Campus Library seeks a dynamic Systems Manager to provide
leadership, training and vision in planning and managing the Library's
information systems, networks, and technical applications in order to
enhance service to users and increase productivity of staff. A leader in
providing electronic access to information, the Library furnishes access
to over 200 CD-ROM databases and more than 50 periodical and full-text
databases through LUIS, the state-wide OPAC. Users connect to the
Internet and World Wide Web through one of the largest clusters of
public-access workstations available in the state and receive hands-on
training in two state-of-the-art information technology labs. The Library
is moving quickly toward expanding its CD-ROM LAN; increasing the number
of public Internet terminals; scanning its unique print collections; and
presenting its electronic resources conveniently to its on-site and remote
uses through the World Wide Web at http://www.lib.usf.edu
Under the direction of the Library Director, the successful candidate will
provide leadership for a growing Systems Unit and supervision of support
staff and student assistants.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in an appropriate area of
specialization and two years of appropriate post degree experience; OR a
bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years
of appropriate post degree experience; demonstrated competence in
programming, installing and managing networked information systems and
custom applications.
Desired qualifications: ALA-accredited masters degree in library science;
working knowledge of academic library integrated systems and services;
experience in a multiplatform computer workstation environment; experience
in developing staff training programs; familiarity with the issues and
trends facing research libraries; experience with strategic planning for
information resources; ability to work as a member of a team; experience
managing technical projects and technical staff; and in-depth knowledge of
telecommunications, networking protocols and LAN management, open systems
standards and design, information retrieval and text and image-based
applications; ability to work effectively under the pressure of
simultaneous projects and deadlines; and the ability to communicate
effectively with all levels of users.
Salary and Benefits: Minimum salary $46,000+, negotiable. Benefits
package includes medical, dental, and life insurance plans, retirement
plan, vacation and sick leave.

Automation Librarian, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford,
Oklahoma. Eleven month permanent position. Under limited supervision, and
with support from the Computer Center, manages the Systems Office of the
library, its personnel, services and operations.
Primary responsibility for:
Analysis and assessment of present operations & leadership in future
computer-based technologies; keep up with changing options available to
libraries.
Instruction on use of computer equipment and software
All hardware in library, including networked computers, printers, cd
drives, standalone computers, software at all levels, documentation of local
decisions, and some adaptations for individuals with disabilities.
Management, planning, budgeting, implementation, operation, maintenance
and training for all computer services and systems in the library.
Work with Computer Center, including shared operations and delivery of
services outside library building: on campus, on branch campus, and through
other developing options
Supervision of part-time employee.
DRA installation, upgrades, operations, maintenance, training.
Maintainance of CD server, installation of upgrades.
Maintenance of DRA policy file, Saber software operation, backups of
computer programs and files.
Maintain computer networked databases, troubleshoot as needed during=
hours
of library operation.
Maintenance of computer equipment inventory, in conjunction with=
bookkeeper.
Cooperation and integration with technological developments in state and
national library communities.
Work during evening and weekend hours, when needed
The following duties are common to all professional librarians:

plan, coordinate, keep statistics and evaluate services in area of=
position
develop or review policies, procedures, or assist in their development,

work at the information desk, at least one day time period, assisting
patrons in use of electronic databases, internet, and reference materials
in depth review of sections of the collection, as assigned
full participation in the academic community
attend department head planning meetings
assist faculty, staff and patrons in a rapidly changing environment
serve as subject specialist for assigned area(s)
review new reference materials
contact for automation decisions affecting services in area of position
review professional literature and attend meetings relating to services=
in
area of position
participate in statewide or national committees relating to various
library interests
special projects as assigned
Education and Experience: ALA accredited master=92s degree in library
science, experience in automated library services, prefer VAX and Novell
experience.
Southwestern Oklahoma State University is located in Weatherford, Oklahoma,
60 miles west of Oklahoma City on Interstate 40. The 5000 student campus is
supplemented by a small branch campus 60 miles west, and various off campus
programs. The University has graduate programs in Education, Psychology,
