North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and nominations
for the position of Assistant Head of Systems/Librarian for Digital Resources.
 Committed to becoming a leading digital library, the Libraries seeks an
experienced professional to provide leadership and knowledge in the
implementation of digital library technologies.  The Systems Department, with
a staff of 5 librarians, 7 support staff, and 3 FTE temporary staff, is
responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting advanced automated
information systems for the NCSU Libraries.  The Libraries operates in an open
and integrated computing environment with Windows-based, Macintosh, and
Unix-based workstation computers for a variety of program-oriented and office
automation tasks, connected by high speed, dual fiber-optic backbone network
offering a rich array of network services.  The Libraries uses software from
Data Research Associates, Inc., running on a Digital AXP 4000/610 for online
catalog, acquisitions and serials, circulation, and database access.  This
system is complemented by software from Ameritech Library Systems and
SilverPlatter Information Services running on a Digital AXP 7000/610 for
access to a wide array of databases, and Digital AXP machines hosting a
large-scale World Wide Web site nationally recognized for its innovative
organization and richness of content.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Head of Systems, assists in the administration of
the Systems department and has management responsibilities for three
operational units within the department.  Assumes responsibility for
departmental management in the absence of the department head. Has principal
responsibility for advancing the Libraries' agenda in the use of electronic
reserves, image and full-text digital resources, and other content-rich
electronic resources, including emerging audio and video resources.  Working
with other Systems staff, leverages existing technologies and combines them
with emerging technologies to build content-oriented components of the digital
library.  Works with Libraries staff in team settings to incorporate new,
digital library resources into appropriate delivery mechanisms, including Web
services, Z39.50 support, and proprietary interfaces.  Coordinates and
provides education for Libraries staff in digital library resources and
services. Maintains awareness of state-of-the-art in development and use of
digital library resources.  As part of on-call staff, occasionally acts as
technical resource to library staff for problems and issues related to use of
network navigation tools, electronic mail, routine office-automation tools
(word processing and spreadsheet applications), and program-oriented tools
(OCLC and DRA applications).  Maintains active dialogue with colleagues at
peer institutions, learns and applies technical skills in hardware
andapplications support, network communications technologies, and user
education.  Participates in library-wide committees and task forces, and is
expected to be active professionally.

Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS, or equivalent advanced degree in Information
Science or related-field.  Significant professional experience with computing
in a library setting and with networked environments.  Demonstrated successful
supervisory experience.  Exposure to and understanding of issues related to
development of electronic reserves and other digital library resources.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.  Demonstrated
systems analysis and design skills.  Ability to work independently,and as a
team member in a highly interactive, cross-functional environment.  Able to
set priorities effectively  and resolve competing demands.  Open to an
atmosphere of continual change.  Preferred:  Minimum 3 years' relevant
professional experience. Familiarity with management and operation of
integrated library management software.

Hill, NCSU founded the Triangle Research Libraries Network, a cooperative

Salary and Benefits

Loyola University Chicago is seeking a librarian to provide leadership in
library orientation and instruction programs in four of its seven libraries.
The coordinator is responsible for proposing, developing, implementing,
teaching, evaluating, and marketing instructional programs in a highly
technological environment.  This individual trains, facilitates, evaluates,
and coordinates the efforts of 15-20 staff who participate in the
instruction program.  Responsible for directing the activities of the
Instruction Team, which consists of one representative from each library

experienced librarian with strong background in information technologies
to:  1) coordinate our review of integrated library systems; 2) assume

of information technology and electronic resources, 4) provide

St. Olaf is a four-year liberal arts college with a strong emphasis on
bibliographic instruction and library service for its 3,000 students and
350 faculty members.  Course-integrated instruction, based on the
Earlham model, is offered throughout the disciplines, with emphasis on
music, English, religion, history, biology and psychology.  A collection
of over 400,000 volumes and 1800 current periodicals located in three
libraries (general, science, music) support this teaching effort.  St.
Olaf is a member of the MSUS/PALS system, which provides online access
to the collections of over 50 libraries, as well as online journal and
government documents indexes.  St. Olaf is a partial U.S. Government
depository library.  The newly renovated general library provides ample
study, office, service and collection space and is home to collections
for the St. Olaf Archives, the Norwegian American Historical Association
and the Howard and Edna Hong Kierkegaard Libraries as well.

St. Olaf librarians work together as a group under the leadership of a
College Librarian chosen from their ranks.  To this end, we seek

Northfield is a town of approximately 14,000 people, with 5,000 students
who attend St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges.  The combined resources of
