I agree with Stuart Spore that casual instruction and experimentation
has it's place. I never would have learned to program without casual
instructions from die-hard bit-bangers who lived in the computing
center. I also would never have learned to navigate the nets without
being willing to experiment.
Sure, formal instruction is important to lay the foundations, but what
we learn is less important than learning *how* to learn. This is as
true for information technology as it is for 6th grade science.
