After a rough start because of the translator, I actually like this
machine more than I planned to do. Most of the basic problems I had
with the RS/6000s in the first place seemed to be fixed, with the
exception of the twm bug where focus does not go to the window from the
icon manager.
However, I could find very little software to test. Virtually none of
the courseware has been compiled for the RS/6000, and none of the "big
ones" besides Todor. Xess, version 1.0 that it is, seemed to run fine,
but Lucid refused to start, giving the following errors:
Could not load program lisp
Symbol fcatgets in lisp is undefined
Symbol fcatgetmsg in lisp is undefined
Symbol _do_open in lisp is undefined
Symbol getppidx in lisp is undefined
Error was: Exec format error
Lisp runs fine on our other RS/6000s
SAS for the most part ran okay. However, trying to invoke the INSIGHT
module caused a segmentation violation and the error
SHOULD NOT HAPPEN: rc$00186CA module vamain(0 in 'va.c' -->
ACK! No runnable tasks and no pending timers!!!
This error also munged the data sets I was looking at, and also does not
occur on our RS/6000s
