I agree, though part of our job security, the folklore/mystery of
sh, sed, awk, tr is obtuse..... (true confession time,...)
E.g., I prefer to hack csh because the "real-prog-shell" sh often floors me,
No one suggests sh/awk scripts will go away, or be converted wholesale.
But when it's time to roll your own, question becomes your preference.
I'm using a few perl scripts already without really understanding them,
but i can see it might be an easier language....once learned.
Thus I'd be thrilled to learn more about perl in our forum. Just need
a volunteer to lead a session...maybe adam? anyone else? thanks---doug
