Just for your information.
At Bay-LISA, we now start at 7:30. The first 1/2 hour is generally used
for various kind of announcements, including an open forum, where
anybody can stand up and announce anything. At 8 PM, the main speaker
starts the evenings talk, which must be completed by 9:30 PM. The
time from 9:30 PM to 10 PM is used for networking (and packing down
the video equipment). At 10 PM everybody remaining is thrown out,
and we move to a nearby restaurant.
This format seems to work well for us, after some experimentation
(including a Larry Wall talk which went on to almost 1 AM).
