re: open discussion

At the last meeting, I mentioned to somebody (Peg Schafer?) how useful
I've found the "wizard's panel" meetings at Usenix conferences. A
bunch of "wizards" sit at a podium and attempt to answer user's questions.

Since it may be difficult to get people to volunteer to be "wizards",
perhaps some similar format could be devised. One idea is to pass
around 3x5 file cards at the beginning of the meeting -- on which each
person can propose a question/topic for discussion. The moderator
would sift through the cards during the "formal presentation" come up
with a list of frequent topics, and use that list as a starting point
for the open discussion and/or as a suggestion for future meetings.

re: minutes

The problem is getting a volunteer to be scribe. Perhaps the
moderator(s) should ask for volunteer(s). I find it's usually better
if two people collaborate; when I do it by myself, I often spend so
much time taking notes I don't get to participate in the discussion,
but when two people collaborate, we can get together afterwords and
compare notes.

Bblisa is our group, we can make it into whatever we want!
