SLIP is currently much more widespread, however PPP is indeed better.
The main reason why PPP is better is that SLIP only supports TCP/IP,
while PPP supports many different protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, Appletalk,
Netware, OSI).  Not as many vendors support PPP at the moment,
unfortunately.
