O'Reilly & Associates has a pretty good book, Using UUCP and Usenet.
It's available at Quantum Books in Kendall Sq, among other places.
The most realistic intro to Usenet (i.e., "how to survive -- or better,
avoid -- your first flamewar") is in Brendan Kehoe's Zen and the Art
of the Internet. Archie can tell you where to FTP it; buying the hardcopy
is a nice investment.
