Recently, there has been talk that the Newton will be using a chip
called the ARM 3 for 1st gen. newts. (MacWeek?)
This is counter to what was earlier said in Byte and Popular Science,
meaning everyone said it was the ARM 630.
What is the difference?
Also, does anyone know about what ARM chip 3-DO is using? I heard from a
programmer friend that they use ARM, plus a number of custom chips, for
their advanced video game due out sometime in 94.
Also, they have MPW tools out, both an assembler and a C compiler, for
Macintosh. They supposidely came from the ARM makers. (who?)
They are also using some custom versions of Video 32, developed by
Electronic Arts, for doing animation; it is supposidely a Studio 32
spin-off for doing Quicktime and 3-DO format cel animation.
