This is a little old, but it gives some good information on getting the
1.04 upgrade. Most of you have proably downloaded the upgrade from the
BBS, but not everyone has a computer they can use to get the system
upgrade.
At the 9/2/93 meeting, it was pointed out that the Inbox is capable of
receiving system upgrades using a modem. Turns out Apple will actually
put this feature to work (that's item #3 below)--very nice.

Dear Apple MessagePad Owners:
Thanks again for your ongoing feedback. We have listened carefully to
the suggestions you made. In response, we came up with system update
1.04 which addresses the latest issues concerning memory and power
management. We will provide system update 1.04 to you free of charge,
starting September 10, 1993.
There are a variety of ways you will be able to receive the system
update 1.04:
1. If you own Newton Connection KitT for Macintosh (version 0.9), we
will send you a system update along with Newton Connection KitT for
Macintosh 1.0.
2. If you are a Newton Connection user with online access, you will be
able to download the system update through various online services such
as AppleLink,Compuserve, America On Line and others (you will still
receive Newton Connection Kit 1.0 and the system upgrade diskette via
mail, provided you registered). Using Newton Connection KitT for
Macintosh (version 0.9) you can install the system update.
3. If you own both a Newton MessagePad and a Newton Fax Modem, you will
be able to connect to a special service to download the system update
directly into your Newton MessagePad. The telephone call to access this
service will be toll-free for customers in the U.S. Customers outside
the U.S. will be able to dial a toll number to receive the update from
this service. Information about the toll-free number and instructions
about how to connect will be posted here towards the end of next week.
4. If you don't have Newton Connection or a modem, you can call you can
call 1-800-242-3374 and we will send you an update card along with a
postage-paid envlope in which to return the card, once you have updated
your MessagePad software.
To keep you informed of future Newton developments, please register your
Newton MessagePad as soon as possible.
Furthermore, Apple's customer support line, 1-800-SOS-APPLE, will
continue to provide you with technical support.
