As you most probably realise, patches are handled in a different way to
packages by the Newton MessagePad. I had it explained to me by someone
"Probably, yes that should be easy" with the explanation following on,
but I didn't understand well enough to be able to relate it to you
because:

a: I haven't used the Newton Tool Kit
b: I'm a hardware guy
c: I don't even have a MessagePad anyway (sob !)

When you install the patch (forget 1.03, new super-strength
washes-whiter 1.04 will be out imminently) you will have to wipe your
MessagePads main memory as part of the installation process, so you will
need the Connection Kit to back you up, or a PCMCIA memory card to back
up to. The NTK won't back you up.

So my advice to you is to wait patiently for your Connection Kit to come
through, or call 1-800-SOS-APPLE to request 1.04 on PCMCIA when it is
announced, not before, watch this space.

Maybe someone looking in can tell us step by step how to install the
patch with the Newton Tool Kit ?
