This is a test to see if I can post to the BCS-Newton PDA section of the
first class bbs (+1.617.864-3375; up to 14.4; get the settings file and
First class client, and go to Other Groups:BCS Newton. Sorry if you've
read this 6,000 times from me; just gettin the word out.) from my
Internet account.

If *****You are reading this on the BCS-Mac BBS*****

1 - have you noticed that the flags on things you haven't read are not
properly flagged? If so, please tell me since it is probably my doing. I
pretty much am careful not to set things.

1.1135562 - Make your life easy! Use Aliases! Go to Other Groups: Newton
PDA. GO to the conference menu if logged on with First Class. Do A Make
Alias, which will put an area alias (pointer) on your desktop. You can
also do this for the sub-areas in Newton PDA. You can also put them all
in a folder on your desktop or leave them free. Update aliases/setting
files every 6 months or so, since the area changes.

1.5 - Do you like the Newton PDA area? Does stuff easy to find? I know a
number of you are new logons, and some from all over the world so I want
to make your Newton PDA experience quick and easy.

2 - I will be moving some of the message base into our Newton area
structure; here is what the different sections are for:

********BBS-Area Definitions***************

**Info & old messages: general interest articles, press releases,
BCS-Newton PDA online meeting logs (that 3/29 file); NOTA BENE: I am
and will be MOVING old messages from the main BCS-Newton area into the
folder called Old Newt-PDA area Msgs!!! Would you like me to archive
this message-base for one-shot downloads?

**(dates) Meetings & Events: a schedule of upcoming BCS-Newton PDA
meetings, NewtonScript Developer Bootcamps, interesting events, and
wacky pow-wows.

**Tricks & Tips: Tricks, tips and easter eggs to make your newton
experiences more fun!

**The Beaming Bistro: (Thanks James Joaquin!) The eventual home of our
Chat area; Chats are like CB channels; 1st class has a public and
private chat. We plan to simulcast our meetings here from now on, at
least in the pubic chat 'till further notice.

**Newt Volunteer: Postings about volunteer help we need for BCS-Newton;
Help make the BCS-Newton PDA group the best Newton group in the
Universe. Let's be Giants! It also contains ***Newt Newsletter:
re-starting a discussion that started on the Newt Internet mailing list
last October, talk about doing stories and reviews for the newsletter.
We still need a name.

**Programmers Collective: home of the Newton Programmers Collective, the
"tech" sub-group and much much more for BCS-Newton. Has: **Tool &
Connect Kit - questions/answers about NTK and NCC; **NewtonScript Feng
Shui: The much-talked about book project of the year that Gene Shalite
of NBC News says: "...Will be -the- guide to NewtonScript and NTK."
**Essential Knowledge: Newton terms, my famous word list, ...more later
IT also has an alias to the Programmer:Dylan area on BCS-Mac. Dylan is
*NOT* the development langauge for Newton; but it is an interesting
OODL.

***Newton Apps/Uploads - PD Newton applications; discussion of such. The
Newton Upload area.

VaporFolders - Newton PDA: Programmers Collective: Tool & Connect Kit:
NewtonScript Samples Ok, so sue me! I only have one short snippet of
NewtonScript, but as of next week there should be more. (I have
collected a couple). Post interesting Snippets!

3 - If you can't post to the Internet, you are set up as a guest
account. BCS members get guest accounts and lots of other bennies (more
time, access to online CD roms & Internet, etc.) If you are working on a
BCS-Newton project I can also get more time.

If ****You are reading this on the Internet****

You can now think of any of the BBS sections as Internet areas. Please
realize that not all BBS folks can post back to the net. Please do route
some (not all) messages if you think they will be useful.

Net groups:
Info & requests - bcs-newton-request@world.std.com; will eventually move
to MIT. bcs-newton@world.std.com

Newton Programmers Collective: npc@dtw.com (temp); will eventually be at
MIT.

We need an FTP site! Any takers on a site? probably need 100 meg by 3/94; can get a disk donation.

***One more thing: what do you think of a content "letter" for lack of better term? I been talking with kent borg about an electronic newsletter; but much more. It could be the Funhouse one month, with silly mirrors, wacky sounds, a scary room, and something entirely new the next. It would be an app on Newton, utilize bookmaker stuff, but go beyond nav. buttons and text fields.

It could also be a showcase for cool hacks; have a button for adding BCS Newt and other meets to your calendar; have games, wierd themes, etc.

Talk amongst yourselves (collectively, to the list and BBS)
