Yes, there has been a fair amount of discussion of Dylan, since most
media sources are saying that Dylan will be the development language of
choice, although Apple has neither confirmed or denied that.
As far as adding bcs-newton@world.std.com to the
announce-dylan@cambridge.apple.com mailing list, my gut reaction is
*not* to do this. Since you mailed the Dylan FAQ to the our list
(thanks!), I think that people who wish to join the various Dylan
mailing lists will do so. I already know several people who subscribe to
both.
While Dylan is way cool, we are trying to focus on how the BCS will
support Newton users. We would like to provide certain tools to BCS
members, like having the BCS Calendar available on Newton. (See BCS
Update to see what Calendar looks like. To see the current electronic
version, check ftp.eff.org:/pub/bcs.) Perhaps that means developing this
app in Dylan. Or using the (rumored) NewtonScript scripting language.
Until we get more information on how to develop for Newton, we are in
the dark about how to proceed on this.
What may happen in the future, assuming that Apple announces that Dylan
is the language of choice for Newton, is that we'll start a list for
members interested in developing for Newton. Or perhaps we could form a
special interest group for those who wish to explore Newton development.
In the meanwhile, I'd like to keep this mailing list focused on
discussing the formation of the BCS Newton user group.
