My non-handwriting-recognizing Newton is now functional, thanks to the
handy dandy reset button (under the battery cover). After explaining the
problem to the Apple guy at the Lechmere booth (Domenic),
he suggested resetting it, and it worked (leaving all my preferences intact!). I asked one of the guys at Symphony Hall if they had seen
this problem with any other Newtons. They have had rumors of
a couple of similar cases. Their current guess is that it has something to do
with the "Getting
Started" PCMCIA card. Apparently, the apps leave some nasty residue
behind that confuses the Newton. Again, this is not official, but the if
you have problems after using the card, that may be it. Thanks to all
who responded to my first post. I'm having a lot of fun with my Newtoy.(sic)
