A long, long time ago
I can still remember how elections used to make me smile
And I knew when we got the chance
We could elect the president
And maybe we'd be happy for a while
But November made me shiver
With every estimate CNN delivered
Bad news on the TV
Florida's the key
I can't remember if I sighed
When Gore won, then Bush won, then, heck, either guy?
But something touched me deep inside
The day the election died
So ...
Why? Why? Must we eat Florida Pie
Went to Gore, Went to Bush
And they still don't know why
And them campaign boys were as confused as I
Singin' this'll be the day that I win
When the votes from Florida come in
Did Al call in his concession true
And did W have faith in me and you
If CNN told him so
Do you believe in the right to vote
and the predictions that the newspapers wrote
And can they really show us how it'll go?
Well, I know that we're all at a loss
'Cause I saw on CNN both candidates' loss
We had no clue how Florida'd choose
Man, I dig those last-minute blues
Election day? NO! Election Week
Full of pundits, sound bites, and double speak
But I knew it was tongue-in-cheek
The day the election died
