PHILADELPHIA Retired Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, who led the Roman Catholic Archdiocese
of Philadelphia for more than 15 years, championing the Vatican line on
homosexuality and abortion but later coming under fire by two grand juries
investigating child sex abuse allegations, has died. He was 88.Bevilacqua died in
his sleep Tuesday night at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, a
Philadelphia suburb, after battling dementia and an undisclosed form of cancer, an
archdiocese spokeswoman said. He had been the spiritual leader of the 1.5
million-member Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1988 until his retirement in 2003.Bevilacqua, trained
in both civil and canon lawyer, was sharply criticized but never charged
by two Philadelphia grand juries investigating child sex abuse complaints lodged against
dozens of priests in the archdiocese. His death comes just days after
lawyers battled in court over his competency as a potential witness in

who turn out to be security risks.According to the defense officials, Tundra's
official records had indicated the company had investigated the man involved in
the Frontenac attack as a possible threat but the allegation was unsubstantiated.
And Tundra did not pass that information along to U.S. military authorities
prior to the Frontenac incident. As a result of the attack, the military
issued a request for corrective action -- a formal action taken against
contractors that requires them to submit plans to fix the problems found.
Tundra submitted a plan, which was accepted by the military, and the

<font style="color: #FCFCFC">beyond existing agreements.Planned Parenthood said it had set up a Breast Health
Emergency Fund to offset the support that 19 of its local programs
are expected to lose from the Komen Foundation. But the organization on
Tuesday did not disguise its disdain for anti-abortion groups that they blame
for threatening the foundation for its partnership."We are alarmed and saddened that
the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation appears to have succumbed
to political pressure. Our greatest desire is for Komen to reconsider this
policy and recommit to the partnership on which so many women count,"
Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a
statement released by the federation.Planned Parenthood has been a continuous target of
protests, boycotts and funding cutoffs because it is the largest provider of
abortions in the nation. With almost 800 health centers in the U.S.,
the federation provides other services such as birth control,

Ron Paul and Rick Santorum, will battle for recognition and the frontrunners
will try to claim either momentum sustained or momentum regained. But not
until Michigan and Arizona vote on Feb. 28 and then the week
after that when Super Tuesday comes will we see how this crazy

the news in Florida was very unhappy for the former speaker, it
was not uniformly so.Gingrichs 14-point loss in Florida was delivered at the
hands of a variety of voters. Exit polls show the former speaker

APJan. 30: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin lights a cande as he
visits the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery in the town of Tikhvin, about 106
miles east of St. Petersburg.MOSCOW Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he
could face a runoff in Russia's presidential vote in March -- his
first acknowledgment that he may fail to muster enough support for an
outright victory.Putin's statement Wednesday signaled that he might be willing to accept
a less dominating father-of-the nation image if he fails to win more
than 50 percent in the first round on March 4, rather than
risk igniting more public outrage through blatant vote rigging.Evidence of fraud in
favor of Putin's party in December's parliamentary election triggered the largest protests
since the Soviet collapse two decades ago.Putin said at a meeting with
election monitors that "there is nothing horrible" about a runoff and he's
ready for one, according to Russian news reports. But he also warned of
