DELRAY BEACH, Fla. A 6-foot-3, 250-pound naked man died after being
shot by a Palm Beach County Sheriff's sergeant when he attacked a
former New York City police officer, chased a man and his young
son and bit a man on the face.Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at
a Tuesday night news conference that the man later died at a
hospital but it wasn't immediately clear whether he died from gunshot wounds
or from a medical condition.According to Bradshaw, the man was walking on
a street in Delray Beach when, for no apparent reason, he attacked
the 66-year-old retired officer. The man continued down the street, where
he chased a man and his 10-year-old son near the entrance to
a gated community.- Sheriff Ric BradshawBradshaw said the man then started
fighting with an 18-year-old man, who defended himself with a box cutter.
The man bit the 18-year-old on the face."The 18-year-old thought he was
trying to eat his face off," Bradshaw said. "The people that he
assaulted, starting with the retired NYPD guy, the people that he chased
and then the 18-year-old, said this guy had like super human strength,"
the sheriff said. "But he's a big guy to start with. He's
not fat, he looks like an NFL linebacker. And he basically was
terrorizing people all up and down this street."Deputies arrived and tried
to calm the man down. They used a stun gun, but the
man kept going."He takes a fighting stance. They're trying to get him
on the ground. He starts charging them
NEW YORK Four people are in custody on drug charges after
police executed search warrants at three apartments in New York City.Police
say undisclosed quantities of heroin and marijuana were found Tuesday night
in the apartments in a lower Manhattan building. They say three of
the people lived in the building. All four three men and
a woman face charges of criminal possession of a
controlled substance. Two of the suspects also face charges of criminal
use of drug paraphernalia.Police wouldn't say why they had search warrants
for the apartments. They say that "at this time," they aren't linking
the arrests to their investigation into the death of Oscar-winning actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman.Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his apartment with
a syringe in his arm.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">TEHRAN, Iran Iran's foreign minister says Washington's "wishes are unlikely
to come true" at upcoming talks between the Islamic Republic and world
powers over its nuclear program.Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a Wednesday
news conference in Tehran that the U.S. wanted Iran to give up
major parts of its program, but "those wishes are unlikely to come
true and that's why they are negotiating with the Islamic Republic of
Iran to achieve a solution based on realities."Iran stopped enrichment of
uranium to 20 percent and started neutralizing its stockpile on Jan. 20
in order to fulfil commitments reached under an interim deal in Geneva
on Nov. 24. Negotiations over a final comprehensive deal are to start
Feb. 18.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been criticized by hard-liners
who say he made too many concessions in return for too little.
JERUSALEM Israeli planners on Wednesday gave final approval for 558 apartments
in Jewish settlements in war-won east Jerusalem, which is sought by the
Palestinians as a capital, officials said.Palestinian officials said the
decision undermines fragile U.S.-brokered negotiations with Israel on setting
up a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Also Wednesday, Israel's chief peace
negotiator rebuked fellow government ministers who have criticized U.S.
Secretary of State John Kerry for his mediation efforts, pointing to widening
divisions in Israel's center-right governing coalition. The Jerusalem municipality
said its planning committee approved building permits in the neighborhoods
of Har Homa, Neve Yaakov and Pisgat Zeev, built on land Israel
captured in the 1967 war and later annexed. Most of the international
community considers them illegal settlements.Brachie Sprung, a municipality
spokeswoman, said the building projects received initial approval a few
years ago, and that new building in Arab areas of Jerusalem was
also approved Wednesday.Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said Israel
is undermining Kerry's efforts. "The international community must hold Israel
accountable for this policy," he said.Lior Amihai of the Israeli settlement
watchdog group Peace Now said the new approvals are "shameful" at a
time when negotiations are in a sensitive stage.Israeli government spokesman
Mark Regev had no immediate comment.More than 550,000
