BAGHDAD Iraqi officials say separate attacks have killed at least nine
people in the country.A police officer says militants snatched five soldiers
from a taxi Sunday at a fake checkpoint near the northern city
of Mosul and shot them dead. He added that gunmen killed a
grocer inside Mosul. The grocer was a member of the Shabak ethnic
group who have their own distinct language and religious beliefs.Another
police officer said a bomb exploded near a car ferrying a judge
in the northern town of Balad, killing three nurses walking nearby. The
judge, his brother and the driver were wounded. Two medical officials confirmed
the casualty figures. All spoke on condition of anonymity as they were
not authorized to release the information.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">BAGHDAD An Iranian dissident group is accusing Iraqi authorities of cutting
off water and electricity to a contested northern camp for Iranian exiles,
a charge the Iraqi government denies. The Mujahedeen-e-Khalq dissident group
says authorities cut off the services to Camp Ashraf in northeast Iraq
more than two weeks ago, and alleges that Iraqi forces are now
hauling off pieces of the water system.Georges Bakoos oversees the issue
for the Iraqi government and on Sunday dismissed the dissident group's allegations
as "propaganda." He acknowledges there are occasional power cuts at the
camp but says that is no different from other parts of Iraq,
where the electricity supply is spotty.Baghdad wants to shut Camp Ashraf
and move remaining residents to a Baghdad-area camp before relocating them
abroad.
NEW DELHI Hundreds of Hindu nationalists have been detained in northern
India for allegedly defying a ban on pilgrimages to a disputed holy
site that's been the cause of deadly clashes between Hindus and Muslims. The
city of Ayodhya has been under heavy security since last week, when
the Uttar Pradesh state government forbade the pilgrimages for fear of communal
violence. Most shops are closed and people are indoors.Police said more
than 500 members of the nationalist organization Vishva Hindu Parishad were
detained Sunday. The members insist their pilgrimage is a religious event,
not a political one.Hindus believe the site is the birthplace of their
god Rama. Muslims revere it for the 16th century Babri Mosque torn
down by Hindu extremists in 1992, sparking nationwide riots that killed
2,000 people.
