ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. Police in North Carolina have charged a teenager
with attempted murder in the shooting of four youths earlier this week
at a church playground.Police say 17-year-old Shyheim Collins of Rocky Mount
is charged as an adult with four counts of attempted first-degree murder
after more than a dozen bullets were sprayed Monday into a crowd
playing basketball at the Word Tabernacle Church.Collins was being held
Friday morning in the Nash County jail on a $4 million bond.
He had not yet been assigned an attorney.Twelve-year-old Nyreek Horne remains
in critical condition after being shot in the head. Three other young
males shot ages 13, 17 and 19
were all treated and released.Police have not yet suggested a motive but
say they expect to make other arrests.

out of the ditch overnight."The weeklong negotiations had been strained
over issues such as the opposition's demand for -- and the government's
resistance to -- a transfer of power in Syria. The talks have
so far failed to achieve any concrete results, including the passage of
humanitarian aid convoys to besieged parts of the central city of Homs. The
fact that the negotiations -- aimed at ending the three-year civil war
that has killed more than 130,000 people -- continued for the entire
week was seen by many as an encouraging start. But the two
sides continue to blame each other for the violence in Syria and
remain deeply divided over how to end the war and if Syria's
future government should include President Bashar Assad. On Thursday, Syrian
negotiators observed a minute of silence to honor the tens of thousands
of people who have died in a rare moment of unity. The opposition
is demanding a transitional governing body with full executive powers and
wants Assad to step down. The government delegation says that's a nonstarter
and has insisted that the talks focus first on ending the violence.Opposition
spokesman Louay Safi insisted Friday that a transitional governing body
is the only way forward."The regime clearly doesn't want a political solution,
doesn't want to move a step forward to end the Syrian suffering,"
Safi said. "We will not be sitting here endlessly. There will come
a point when it will be clear if the regime is

Peduto has ordered flags flown at half-staff as authorities grieve the loss
of a K-9 officer and moved to prosecute the suspect charged with
fatally stabbing the animal.Twenty-one-year-old John Lewis Rush was one
of Allegheny County's most wanted fugitives when police say he stabbed the
8-year-old dog, Rocco, Tuesday night as officers tried to arrest him.Police
say Rush "lunged out from near a pillar and attacked K-9 Rocco,"
and used a pocket knife to stab the dog in the back.
Three other officers were hurt in the struggle. The dog survived surgery,
but died at a veterinary hospital Thursday evening. The animal succumbed
to his wounds and was not euthanized. He had showed signs of
improvement but he suffered from additional bleeding and developed pneumonia,
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported."He fought as hard here as he did out
on the field," one veterinarian said.Police officers from the canine unit
lined outside the hospital and played bagpipes as the dog was wheeled
outside on an American-flag d
BANGKOK A Thai court has ordered more than $1.4 million in
assets seized from a former top civil servant whose wealth was revealed
when burglars robbed his house. The Civil Court said Friday that former Transport
Ministry Permanent Secretary Supoj Saplom could not prove his wealth was
honestly earned. It said his civil servant's salary from 1978 until 2002
could not account for it.Supoj had reported to police that $156,000 was
missing after a burglary at his home in 2011. But when the
burglars were caught, they confessed to stealing $570,000 in cash and gold.
Prosecutors found Supoj had about $2 million in assets, $1.4 million presumed
ill-gotten by the court.Supoj claimed that part of his fortune was earned
before he joined the government and some belonged to relatives.
