The office in charge of implementing President Obamas health care law is
being spared from sequestration cuts and furloughs. Gary Cohen, director
of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, said Wednesday
his office was not forced to cut worker hours due to the
across-the-board spending cuts that rolled out in March, The Hill reported.Republicans
have accused the Obama administration of cherry-picking projects and agencies
that would be slapped hardest by sequestration. Most recently, furloughing
FAA workers have caused massive delays at airports across the country.Rep.
Greg Harper, R-Miss., reportedly said the fact that ObamaCare officials
havent had their hours cuts highlights the political nature of the cuts."We're
talking about at least a 15 percent furlough of current air-traffic controllers,
resulting in delays and perhaps safety concerns, but yet this has been
a selective political item by the administration," Harper said.Cohen maintains
his office is still feeling the pinch because they are under a
hiring freeze but Harper said during an Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee
hearing that he wasn't buying it.Click for more from The Hill.

Trade Center's twin towers and crippling the Pentagon.Brinkley lauded the
series of speeches and impromptu remarks that Bush gave in the days
immediately following 9/11, including the memorable moment when he used
a bullhorn and, standing with a New York City firefighter amid the
rubble of the twin towers, declared that the people who knocked these
buildings down will hear all of us soon." During that period, Bush
earned the gratitude of all Americans, including those opposed to him politically,
Brinkley said.I think that because 9/11 is such a defining moment in
our lives -- like Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination -- people
will start remembering 9/11, Brinkley told Fox News. George W. Bush, in
my opinion, did a pretty good job of uniting the country in
those weeks of dire need. He communicated well; the government functioned."Brinkley
noted the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and specific security
enhancements at Americas airports."And we did not get hit again. We werent
struck again after 9/11," Brinkley said. "He did the best he could.Bush's
legacy, however, also will be inextricably tied to the still-evolving fates
of the countries he ordered American troops to invade in the aftermath
of 9/11: Afghanistan and Iraq. The president, as well as aides like
Condoleezza Rice, cautioned repeatedly during his two terms that the verdict
on the success of those massive, multifaceted undertak

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">ies to collect sales taxes if the store has a physical
presence in the state. As a result, many online sales are essentially
tax-free, giving Internet retailers an advantage over brick-and-mortar stores. While
Republicans generally oppose higher taxes -- and agreed to an increase on
top earners as part of the fiscal crisis deal only after negotiating
a narrower hike than the administration originally envisioned -- supporters
of the Internet sales tax bill insist it is not a tax
increase.Instead, they say, the bill merely provides states with a mechanism
to enforce current taxes."This bill has nothing to do with imposing any
kind of new tax or revenue generator," said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn.
"What this law does is allow states that already have laws on
the books to carry out the implementation of those" laws."South Dakota Gov.
Dennis Daugaard, a Republican, called it a "matter of equity and fairness.""The
same people who are selling the same products should be paying the
same taxes," he said.Supporters say the bill is about fairness for businesses
and lost revenue for states. But opponents say it would impose complicated
regulations on retailers and doesn't have enough protections for small businesses.
Businesses with less than $1 million a year in online sales would
be exempt. While online giant Amazon has come around to the tax, major
online retailers like eBay are strongly opposing it.Many of the nation's
governors -- Republicans and De
 e conservative. But lets not
forget that on many issues, Bush was more compassionate than conservative
indeed, he was sometimes closer to Republican Theodore Roosevelts free-market
progressivism than William Howard Tafts laissez-faire conservatism.Examples
include No Child Left Behind education reform, presented together at the
White House by Bush and the liberal icon Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.)
in the early days of the Bush presidency; support for broad immigration
reform, very similar to the bipartisan legislation recently proposed in
the Senate; and an extension of Medicare to include prescription drug benefits
the most far-reaching and generous Medicare reform since Lyndon Johnson.Third,
it is important to remember what a good man with a good
heart George W. Bush is.I know from personal experience. As I have written
before, I remember sitting next to Bush when we were in the
same residential college at Yale (Davenport he graduated a year after
me). I recall an evening when a group of us was sitting
in the common room outside the college dining hall after dinner and
a fellow Yale student walked by who was known to be gay,
but in those days was not out. Someone said some ugly homophobic
slurs.I didnt like it, yet sat silently. But Bush snapped, saying something
like Hey, knock it off. Why dont you walk in his shoes
awhile and feel what he feels?I remember thinking, Whoa. This guy is
much different inside than the fun-loving frat
