FILE - In this Sunday, March 31, 2013 photo, Pope Francis greets
the faithful at the end of the Easter Mass in St. Peter's
Square at the Vatican. Francis is the first Jesuit to be elected
pope, and members of the order have only started absorbing the novelty
of one of their own leading the church. But they have also
started thinking ahead, to the potential impact of this pontificate on their
many ministries, colleges and overall future. (AP Photo/Andrew Medichini,

faced the same struggles to find priests that have plagued the wider
Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Chuck Frederico, one of the priests who
evaluate Jesuit applicants, says he usually heard from five a week, or
fewer. Then, last month, the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio stepped out
on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica the first Jesuit
to be elected pope. The number of queries jumped to four or five
each day."Some guys who made contact in the past weeks are serious
candidates," said Frederico, vocations director for the region from Maine
to Georgia. "This election of the Holy Father has given them reason
to examine this more fully."Jesuits have only started absorbing the novelty
of one of their own leading the church. Most were so shocked,
they Googled to confirm the connection before they dared to celebrate. Robert
Wassmann, an instructor at Washington Jesuit Academy, a middle school, told

UNDATED: This photo released by the Carson City Sheriff's Office shows William
McCune.APRENO, Nev. A body believed to be that of Nevada's chief
insurance examiner was found wrapped in a blanket and bound with duct
tape Saturday in a river in Carson City, and four suspects were
arrested in the case, authorities said.Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said
that while a positive identification and cause of death have not been
officially established, investigators believe the body found by searchers
in the Carson River is that of William McCune, who disappeared earlier
this week.Authorities suspected foul play after finding evidence Thursday
of a bloody, violent struggle in McCune's apartment in Carson City, the
state's capital. Deputies were called to the apartment after the 62-year-old
McCune failed to board a flight with a co-worker and other employees
found no sign of him when they went to his residence. All four
suspects are from the Carson City area, Furlong said, but detectives were
unsure of their relationship to McCune or motive for the slaying.Still,
investigators continue to believe McCune's death concerned "personal" matters
and was not work-related, the sheriff said. He declined to elaborate.Michael
Evans, 23, and Anthony Elliot, 20, were booked on murder charges, while
Raul Garcia, 22, and Makyla Blackmore, 20, were arrested on burglary charges.Evans
was taken into custody in Carson City, while the others were arrested

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">TEHRAN, Iran An Iranian senior lawmaker says the recent nuclear talks
between Iran and world powers were effective. The Sunday report by the semi-official
ISNA news agency quotes Alaeddin Boroujerdi as saying that the talks were
"considered effective and a step forward."Boroujerdi, however, says Iran
will never stop its nuclear program. The West suspects Iran is trying to
develop nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the allegation.Boroujerdi, who
heads a parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy,
says the talks should be continued. His comments are the first after talks
on Friday and Saturday in Kazakhstan between Iran and permanent members
of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany. The discussions did not lead
to any breakthrough in resolving the standoff.
 dge there's medical evidence
that carrying a fetus to term can lower a woman's risk for
breast cancer, but doctors convened by the National Cancer Institute a decade
ago concluded that abortion does not raise the risk for developing the
disease. The provisions dealing with tax breaks are designed to prevent the
state from subsidizing abortions, even indirectly. For example, health care
providers don't have the pay the state sales tax on items they
purchase, but the bill would deny that break to abortion providers. Also,
a woman could not include abortion costs if she deducts medical expenses
on her income taxes."Every taxpayer will be able to know with certainty
that their money is not being used for abortion," Pilcher-Cook said. But
Jordan Goldberg, state advocacy counsel for the New York City-based Center
for Reproductive Rights, called the tax provisions "appalling and discriminatory.""It's
probably, if not definitely unconstitutional, and it's incredibly mean-spirited,"
she said.
