War II. The second USS Arlington was a Vietnam War-era communications relay
ship, which the Navy says assisted with communications during a June 1969
conference between U.S. President Richard Nixon and Republic of Vietnam
President Nguyen Van Thieu.In honor of the northern Virginia community,
two of the ship's main passageways are marked with road signs from
major Arlington thoroughfares: Arlington Boulevard and Columbia Pike.The
other amphibious transport docks named after 9/11 attack sites are the USS
New York and the USS Somerset. The USS New York was built
with steel from the World Trade Center and recently completed its first
deployment. The USS Somerset is named for the Pennsylvania county where
United Airlines Flight 93 crashed.Its bow stem -- the first part of
the ship to push through the water -- was made from 7.5
tons of steel melted down from the bucket of a huge coal-mining
crane that stood near the crash site. It was there that miners
hung a large American flag to serve as a landmark and to
honor the dead.It was christened in July and will join the fleet
in 2014."The USS Arlington, New York and Somerset serve as a reminder
to us of all that we lost on 9/11. More importantly, they
stand as a clear and distinguishable message to those who oppose democracy.

LONDON The British government says it is giving an additional 67
million pounds ($102 million) to Sudan over the next three years, with
at least half of the aid earmarked for the war-torn Darfur region.International
Development Minister Lynne Featherstone says the funds will help end Darfur's
dependency on emergency aid by tackling the root causes of poverty.The money
will go toward helping communities grow their own food and get skills
training.The announcement through Britain's Department for International
Development came ahead of an international donor's conference on Darfur's
development held Sunday in Qatar.Britain currently spends 25 million pounds
a year in Darfur.

chances of tracking down a sailboat that may be carrying two boys
kidnapped from their grandparents' home.The Hillsborough County Sheriff's
Office says Joshua Michael Hakken entered his mother-in-law's house north
of Tampa early Wednesday, tied her up and fled with his sons,
4-year-old Cole and 2-year-old Chase.Authorities are searching for a boat
Hakken recently bought. It's described as having a blue Bimini top, white
mainsail, and a blue hull with the word "Salty" and a paw
print in white on both sides, with a white stripe near the
water line. There is possibly a yellow horseshoe life preserver on deck.Sheriff's
office spokesman Larry McKinnon tells The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/12xyjhY)
that good weather means more recreational and boaters will be on the
water and able to help in the search.Storms had been moving along
the west coast of Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico last
week, but conditions improved Saturday and Sunday.Federal, state and local
authorities are searching for the sailboat by sea and air. Pictures of
the vessel also have been distributed at local marinas.Hakken, his wife
Sharyn and the boys could be anywhere, McKinnon said. The truck the
family had been traveling in was found late Thursday, abandoned in a
