This undated photo provided by Blue Rider Press/Penguin shows award-winning
journalist and war correspondent Michael Hastings.APThe Los Angeles Coroners
Office says journalist Michael Hastings, who won fame writing the Rolling
Stone article that ended General Stanley McChrystal's career, had drugs
including amphetamines and marijuana in his system when he was killed in
a fiery car crash in June. However, coroner's investigators said the drugs
likely did not contribute to the crash, which they classified as an
accident. Toxicology results showed small amounts of amphetamine in Hastings'
blood, which indicated he had possibly taken methamphetamine many hours
before his death. Traces of marijuana were also present, indicating he'd
taken it hours earlier.Hastings cause of death was massive blunt force trauma,
and the coroner determined he likely lost consciousness upon impact and
died within seconds. The autopsy report came two months after Hastings' death
on a deserted Los Angeles street fueled conspiracy theories and prompted
the FBI to release an unusual statement that it had not been
investigating him.Hastings died when his Mercedes, traveling at a high rate
of speed, crossed into the median on Highland Avenue in Hollywood and
struck a tree on June 18. The car burst into flames and
Hastings' body was charred to the point that it took several days
to positively identify him.The report states that Hastings had been "sober"
for 14 years, but
GRANTS PASS, Ore. Wildfires burning in Oregon, Idaho and Montana are
taxing national firefighting resources and helping to push spending past
$1 billion for the year. The National Interagency Fire Center in Boise upped
the national wildfire preparedness level Tuesday to the highest level for
the first time in five years. The center lists two central Idaho wildfires
as the country's top priorities, helping provide crews and resources for
the Beaver Creek fire, which forced the evacuation of 1,250 homes in
the resort area of Ketchum and Sun Valley and has cost nearly
$12 million so far.Fire center official Steve Gage says they can't fill
the requests for crews and equipment for all 48 fires that remain
uncontained around the country.___Keith Ridler contributed to this report
from Boise, Idaho.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">SAO PAULO It was a frenzied start to FIFA's attempt to
fill the stands for next year's World Cup in Brazil as fans
applied Tuesday for more than 1 million tickets in just seven hours. But
it will be some time before they know whether they'll be among
those lucky enough to get seats to football's signature quadrennial event.
Officials say applicants won't hear back until October, after FIFA holds
a random selection draw on all the requests.More than 163,000 people requested
the tickets online for the 64 World Cup matches being held in
Brazil. The website of football's governing body FIFA showed that there were
more ticket applications than the number of seats available in all four
price categories for the opener in Sao Paulo and the final at
Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.Demand was also high in all price categories
for the semifinals, and 39 of the 64 matches had too many
requests at least for the cheaper category, available only for Brazilians.FIFA
said the highest amount of applications so far has come from Brazil,
Argentina, the U.S., Chile and England."The respective ticket product is
already heavily oversubscribed and therefore, at that point in time, the
success of the application appears very unlikely," FIFA said of the high
demand categories. "There are vastly more ticket applicants seeking tickets
than there are tickets presently available for the general public."Prices
for the final will go from $440-$990, although Brazilian

Australian baseball player was shot and killed by three bored teenagers
who decided to kill someone for fun, in Duncan, Okla. Lane, who
was visiting Duncan where Harper and her family lives, had jogged past
a home where the boys were staying and that apparently led to
him being gunned down at random, said Police Chief Danny Ford.APProsecutors
on Tuesday charged two teenagers accused of gunning down an Australian student
in Oklahoma for the fun of it with first-degree murder, and a
third teen with being an accessory.Officials say 22-year-old Christopher
Lane, who was visiting the U.S. on a baseball scholarship at East
Central University, was jogging along a road in Duncan, Okla., after visiting
his girlfriend on Friday when he was shot in the back, allegedly
by the teens.Terri Moore from the Stephens County Courthouse says 16-year-old
Chancey Allen Luna and 15-year-old James Francis Edwards Jr. were charged
as adults with first-degree murder. Both are being held without bond.Bond
