Concert.APATLANTA Chris Kelly, half of the 1990s kid rap duo Kris
Kross who made one of the decade's most memorable songs with the
frenetic "Jump," has died, and authorities say they are investigating his
death as a possible drug overdose.Investigator Betty Honey of the Fulton
County Medical Examiner's office said the 34-year-old Kelly was pronounced
dead around 5 p.m. Wednesday at the south campus of the Atlanta
Medical Center.Cpl. Kay Lester of the Fulton County police said "it appears
it may have been a possible drug overdose."An official cause of death
is pending an autopsy.Kelly, known as "Mac Daddy," and Chris Smith, known
as "Daddy Mac," were introduced to the music world in 1992 by
music producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri after he discovered the pair in
an Atlanta mall. The duo wore their clothes backwards as a gimmick,
but they won over fans with their raps.Their first, and by far
most successful song, was "Jump." The hit, off their multiplatinum 1992
debut album "Totally Krossed Out," featured the two trading versus and rapping
the refrain, the song's title. The duo had surprising maturity in their
rap delivery, though the song was written by Dupri. It would become
a No. 1 smash in the United States and globally, and one
of the most popular of that year.Their success led to instant fame:

BOGOTA, Colombia The editor of Colombia's top newsmagazine says gunmen
fired five shots at its prize-winning investigations chief, but he was uninjured.Semana
editor Alejandro Santos says Ricardo Calderon was attacked Wednesday night
by two gunmen who got out of a car and called his
name when he stopped at a toll booth in Girardot, a town
southwest of Bogota.Santos says Calderon escaped by diving into a dark roadside
ditch.The 42-year-old Calderon has written sensitive stories including reports
about illegal spying by the DAS domestic intelligence agency that led to
its dismantling and the jailing of more than 20 agents.Semana said he
is working on a story about cushy conditions for military officers convicted
of human rights violations held at a military base near Girardot.

11."We are seeking information about three individuals who were on the grounds

Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that he has signed legislation
expanding the ability of state agents to seize firearms from nearly 20,000
Californians who are not allowed to have them.They collectively own more
than 39,000 handguns and 1,670 assault weapons but are prohibited from owning
firearms because they have been convicted of crimes, ruled mentally unstable
or are subject to domestic violence restraining orders.The bill authorizes
$24 million for the state Department of Justice's Armed and Prohibited Persons
program. The money will go to hire more agents to confiscate the
weapons and reduce the backlog over the next three years.The program, which
is unique to California, cross-checks five databases to find people who
bought weapons they are no longer legally allowed to own.SB140 by Senator
