i am excited about my new running shoes. my problem, dear anne, is that it =
is 2009. kids don't like to get all fussied up anymore, and i don't think t=
hey would go to the trouble of making up stories about lost broaches to be =
able to go to a silly church picnic. in my mind the little girls are wearin=
g spring dresses and holding parasols with their gloved hands while the boy=
s are eating biscuits and drinking homemade rootbeer with their hats and su=
spenders on. but i live in a dreamland where i want everything stylized. i =
know you understand me, anne. off to the kindergarten valentine's day p=
arty where are neighborhoods like that anymore? with bushes big enough to h=
ide in? and kids that go around the block together all afternoon? and norma=
l sized houses? and the old winkfields next door? ok, i don't need the wink=
fields. but i'd sure love to give my kids the rest. the other day sarah jan=
e posted about her obsession for vintage childrens' books, specifically the=
ir illustrations to inspire her in her artwork. i loved her post because i =
have the same love for old childrens' books and they are favorite things to=
look for during garage sale season. i thought i'd share my favorites. of a=
ll the cool old stuff out there, can i admit to being lame enough that the =
vintage little golden books are my favorite? alot because they remind me of=
my childhood (we had a large collection that i read over and over and...) =
but also because of illustrator eloise wilkin. she did alot of the books be=
tween the 50s-70s, and her drawings of little cherubic children with eyes f=
ull of wonderment, are my favorites. me: um, we didn't have computers in=
our homes then. from the spring/summer 09 toast catalog. what a few hours=
on a sunny day can do for you... refined sugar will be your enemy till you=
die. well, just as we were making preparations to get moving, grant was gr=
anted that job he wanted right here in utah. i guess we're staying put (sor=
ry shellie, i wanted to live by you and drive to see ray and the beach on w=
eekends real bad). DSC_0006 in which we are cozying in bed on a sunny sun=
day afternoon upon our return from church, loving our dog; cate praises the=
virtues of build a bear workshop and dresses to prove it; some sleep, othe=
