Gurusamy Sarathy's port for Win32 comes with LWP pre-installed. I
believe LWP can be made to work with the ActiveState port, but it
requires extra work. Sarathy's port is a more recent version of Perl
(5.004 vs. 5.003) which is one of several good reasons to use it.

It's pleasant to see perl5004 being compiled and installed gracefully.
Then, can I remove the files extracted from the "latest.tar" without
impair the functionality of perl? Thanks.

It is my understanding that Win95/NT is paranoid, not you :-)
You should be able to swipe a copy from your local CPAN.

It does have a "real" user interface, a command line one, and I've seen
people do some stuff in emacs.... The debugger can do everything you'd want.
Simple in interface doesn't mean hard to use or underpowered. BTW...I'd like
to see CGI debugging in any language that goes beyond "print Content-type: ...".

First of all I want to thank all who have helped me in my quest to write
this file management program in Perl - comments have been most helpful and
patient as I am a newbee programmer!
I am running Perl on NT IIS4 - works great no serious probs so far...
In my program I have some code which is supposed to return the contents of a
directory marking what are files and folders, and this works except that it
also returns those annoying dots in the msdos style listing thinking they
are directories too: (the . and ..)
which indicate to go up a level, and I would like to exclude these annoting
dots if possible in my program in the
listing. Here is my code:
opendir(MYDIR, "$root$dir")
or die print "Unable to list the directory *$dir*, $!, check permissions.";
print "file" if ( -f "$root$dir/$file");
print "directory" if ( -d "$root$dir/$file " );
print "<a href=\"$baseurl/$dir/$file\">\n";
print $file, "\n";
Thanks in advance for any help!

So your time is worth less when you are trying to modify some one else's
code --- whose coding style (good or bad) may be drastically different than
your own?
And tweaking another person's code is simple?

I believe you want a soft reference, here:
${$sex}{$offer} = $sth->fetchrow_array;
Hmm. I haven't used DBI in a while, but it sure looks like
fetchrow_array is gonna return you an array. You'll be storing the size
of that array in $M{$offer} or $F{$offer}... I don't think you want to

Looks like the save file is corrupt. It can happen during transmission
from the source. It happens because communications aren't always
perfect. A bit off in a record can cause the problem. Also if the file
has been transferred with data translation, it's no good as a SAVF
anymore.
Go download it again and make sure you use binary transfer to the AS/400

Hello, I have a problem that I can not solve because lack of a knowledge
of the protocol nntp and the standard headers of this protocol.
I work for a network organization which exchange the cv and job offer
over extranet.
The cv are e.mailed by a simple routine to sendmail.
Each cv emanating from one of the members of the group will be sent to a
forum of new dedicated to job.
Here the code:
$mailprog = '/usr/lib/sendmail -oi -t';
$addressee = 'myname@mydomainname.x';
open (MAIL, "|$mailprog") || die "impossible1 $!\n";
print MAIL "From: didier\@referencement.net\n";
print MAIL "To: $addressee\n";
print MAIL "Newsgroups: test\n";
print MAIL "Subject: $subject\n";
print MAIL "Reply-To: $sender\n";
print MAIL "$mess\n";
close (MAIL);
Which sends me the message but obviously not to the newsgroup test.
I imagine that since the email uses smtp and the new nntp, this code can
not function.
Is a charitable soul could given to me elements to orient my
researches ?
I apologize for my poor english.
Thank you.

My best advice to you is to put your "personal differences" between
you and IE4 aside, and test it out yourself to be sure. While you may
not like IE4, you don't have to, but always keep in mind that IE makes
up a sizable percentage of the web community, and if you don't take a
look at things from "their eyes" then you will have a hard time
getting to the bottom of it. As to your subject line referring to
perl being incompatible with IE, that's definitely not the problem,
perl really doesn't have anything to do with it. If anything you have
an error in your mime types which may be confusing things, or some
other problem in the HTML your script outputs. Test it thoroughly
with IE4, be sure to look at the source of the script generated HTML
every time and you should be on the road to fixing your problem.. (of
course, if you don't try it yourself and take somebody else's word for
it there might not be a problem at all :) Good luck..

I am working on a joke site and i would like
to have a cgi script were a person reading the
joke can send the joke and a message they
entered to the specified e-mail address. If
someone can script it for me or tell me where
to find it I would greatly appreciate it!
(see zooass' joke jungle at zooass.com for their
script and cybercheez's script at cybercheeze.com)

Although the posting is inappropriate, I believe hotmail
(www.hotmail.com) allows you to configure it for POP3 email reading.

Administrivia:
The Perl-Users Digest is a retransmission of the USENET newsgroup
comp.lang.perl.misc. For subscription or unsubscription requests, send
the single line:
subscribe perl-users
or:
unsubscribe perl-users
to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu.
To submit articles to comp.lang.perl.misc (and this Digest), send your
article to perl-users@ruby.oce.orst.edu.
To submit articles to comp.lang.perl.announce, send your article to
clpa@perl.com.
To request back copies (available for a week or so), send your request
to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu with the command "send perl-users x.y",
where x is the volume number and y is the issue number.
The Meta-FAQ, an article containing information about the FAQ, is
available by requesting "send perl-users meta-faq". The real FAQ, as it
appeared last in the newsgroup, can be retrieved with the request "send
perl-users FAQ". Due to their sizes, neither the Meta-FAQ nor the FAQ
are included in the digest.
The "mini-FAQ", which is an updated version of the Meta-FAQ, is
available by requesting "send perl-users mini-faq". It appears twice
weekly in the group, but is not distributed in the digest.
For other requests pertaining to the digest, send mail to
perl-users-request@ruby.oce.orst.edu. Do not waste your time or mine
sending perl questions to the -request address, I don't have time to
answer them even if I did know the answer.
