I'm not sure about the differences between 5.003 & 5.004_01 Socket and
FileHandle modules (5.004_01 is a bit old, BTW) but Perl strives for total
backwards compatibility in its core modules, so I can't see that being a
serious culprit.
However, I've known RH5 to make some really idiotic blunders in setting up its
routing tables. Check them carefully. On my machine, it forgot to set my
gateway. On a co-worker's machine it forgot to setup the localhost! 'lo'
interface didn't exist (though it did fine with 'eth0'). Wierd.

I have tried a number of combination ODBC from roth and Activestate
Perl for Intel.
For example, Perl 304 and 970208, Perl 315 or 316 and 970208.
Is there anyway to download two compressed files that work together?
I'm able to connect and close but it doesn't fetch any data.
Thanks,

This is no problem in Perl. Check out http://www.scriptsearch.com or just do a
search. The problem you may encounter is that this is so much not a problem,
that people are doing many things with it. You have to figure out exactly what
you'd like to do (classified ads, calendar, search, bbs, chat, etc.)
Good Luck

Subject: Perl FastCGI parameter problem
Message-Id: <35113F13.5FA7@best.ms.philips.com>
Hello All,
I have the following problem using FastCGI with perl (5.003_07):
In the following (incredibly simple) FastCGI script two parameters
(param1 and param2) are stored in two scalar variables using the param()
function. This works fine the first time the FastCGI script is called.
In the following calls the parameters do not seem to change (of course i
called the script with different values for param1 and param2).
#!/user/mrtools/bin/hpux/perl
use FCGI;
while (($ignore) = each %ENV) {
}
use CGI qw(:standard);
while(FCGI::accept() >= 0) {
$param1 = param('param1');
$param2 = param('param2');
print("Content-type: text/html\r\n\r\n",
"<title>FastCGI test</title>\n",
"<h1>FastCGI Test</h1>\n",
"Param 1 : $param1<BR>\n",
"Param 2 : $param2<BR>\n<HR>");
}
What is happening here? I all seems so trivial. Is FastCGi doing strange
things with the %ENV?
Please help me!
Thanks in advance,
Greetings from Holland,
Sander.

Well, how about
#!/usr/local/bin/perl -w
use File::Basename;
$dir = dirname($0);
$file = basename($0);
print "$dir\n";
print "$file\n";
__END__
That what you had in mind?

Perl can't interpolate a mathematical function in a string, so...
system("echo This line has ".($n+1)." words | cat");
...will do it.

Try inserting a slash here.
Note however, that this was not really a Perl question, and that scripts from
Matt's Script Archive are known to have some problems (see DejaNews for
details).

i have done this in the past using the following, very similar,
technique:
danboo> cat required
my %hash = qw( one two );
\%hash;
danboo> cat requirer
#!/usr/bin/perl
$config = require 'required';
print $config->{'one'};
so it allows you access to the data without knowing the structures
name, and since it uses a reference it avoids identical copies of
your config data in memory.

Craig,
It would be nice if I could get the odbc working so it doesn't matter
what database I'm using.
I got the latest Oracle odbc and even tried with the access and odbc
but no luck.
I think that build 315 or 315 doesn't work with ODBC 970208.
It's also confusing how to apply the patches.
Does anyone have a version of Perl and ODBC 970208 that works
together.
Right now it's not fetching any data.
Thanks,
