That confirms my educated guess; that text documents "encoding -
allows you to write your script in non-ascii or non-utf8", not your
claim.
The fact that you refuse to believe the code maintainers is the issue;
your 'thou shalt do as I bid you and not ask silly questions' is your
own fabrication. I urge you to continue using use byte.
