hi all,

you are probably wondering why you were selected for this email. i found
all of you by searching for perl on the mit web site. since you
(including some lists) all have expressed interest in perl, i hope you
will be glad to hear that the boston perl mongers (boston.pm.org and we
meet monthly at mit) are working on hosting YAPC at mit in june
2006.

yapc (yet another perl conference - yapc.org) is a volunteer run
conference that has very high quality talks and is low cost (typically
only $85 for 3 days). it is sponsored by the perl foundation
(perlfoundation.org). just to whet your appetite, some of the most
famous people in the perl community such as larry wall, damian conway
and randal schwartz have given talks at yapc.

yapc has traditionally been held on college campus around the eastern
part of north america. previous host cities/colleges include
pittsburgh/cmu, montreal/mcgill, st. louis/wash univ., boca raton,
fla/FAU, buffalo/suny-buffalo and this past june at univ of toronto.

i have spoken to the mit office of conferences and yapc can be hosted at
mit but they want internal support and/or sponsorship. just having some
alumni (such as myself) involved is not enough. so if you or your
group/dept are interested in helping in any way, please subscribe to our
list at:

	http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/boston-pm-yapc-vol

there are many ways you can help ranging from publicity, resources,
funding, attending, etc. one major and easy way you can help is to
forward this email to anyone who you think would be interested in YAPC
at mit as i (and google!) can't possibly find all of them :).

i think mit would be an amazing place to host yapc but we are also
looking at other campuses in the area as well. so please let me (or our
list) know soon so we can settle on a site and make a proper proposal. i
am also on the site selection commitee of the perl foundation so if we
create a workable proposal, i think it can be hosted at mit. even if it
is hosted elsewhere in boston, you are welcome to help or attend.

i look forward to hearing from you.

thanx,

uri (VI-3, '79)
