by implication you seem to imply that one is unable to get help from
this newsgroup.

You speak without thinking.

I learned enough perl with the aid of people in this group that within
three weeks I was already into the intermediate-level stuff and was
dipping my toes into some advanced concepts, and have since written
several scripts to accomplish my ends that did exactly what I envisioned
them.

I could NOT have done this in the short time I did without the group's
kind assistance.

Many of those replies WERE "RTFM" but at least then I had a better idea
of WHERE to 'rtfm' and could come back with a more intelligent question
and working snippets.

If your only reason for being here is to cast imprecations about instead
of being helpful yourself OR learning from other people's questions and
answers, I must ask, "why are you here?".

assistance from this newsgroup, every time I've needed it?

Hi everyone,

I promote a charity music festival which also involves me running the
website in my spare time. The site needs a monthly calender that can be
updated by the festival organisers and will display the current day /
week and onwards.

We have no money and would really appreciate any ideas anyone has got.

No kidding. Are you also related to Godzilla, Nnickee? Or do you just
like to "make yourself feel good" while you're reading USENET news? :-)

Eh?

I'm not sure how to take that. Asking me if I'm related to Godzilla
is equivalent to asking me to smack you upside the head with a 2x4.

Who doesn't like to feel good no matter what they're doing? (If it
doesn't feel good, why do it?)

But then the smiley at the end confused me.

Did I come across as being sarcastic in my reply to Randal? If I did,
then I was taken the wrong way. I was *honestly* thanking Randal. No
sarcasm of any type intended.

I'm thoroughly confused now, but I'll refrain from using my 2x4 until
I'm sure it's warranted. :)

No, you seemed "a little bit too amorous" in your note to Randal.
There's nothing wrong with a simple "thank you". It made me shift in
my chair as I was reading your posting since it made me feel
uncomfortable. But I got better.

mirrors, and deceit. WAKE UP.

Please don't come crying to the welfare office when Randal drinks the
dollars out of your pockets or to the government when he "innocently"
runs crack on all of your systems and sends you all mail from your own
accounts. And there's no reason to feel bad that our hero was having
his home refurnished and getting laser corrective surgery, while
collecting money for his defense fund from netizens and bragging about
how much money he was spending on IRC #perl.

Yes, thank you Randal. For everything.

All caps are considered shouting. Consistent use of them over a long

Let us ALL hope that you are not representative of everyone in YOUR

Honestly? The more I see you post, the less I want anything to do with

shout imprecations and reproaches at one of the most respected mempers

you need a psychiatrist, not a perl coder.

clean up your act and grow up. That is the most sincere, helpful,

Ouch.

Well, you are doing some fine tuning by beginning
to toss some bad apples into this empty barrel you
are beating, leading to more harmonious notes being
struck although, for a selected few, a bit sour to
their ears.

In fairness, my presumption is Mr. Schwartz is not
allowed to touch these monies fleeced from the pockets
of the gullible. In equal fairness, monies with which
he does not have to part, is quite the same as pocketing
these monies collected. Half a dozen of one, a Baker's
Dozen of another, I would surmise.

Still, I suspect not a lot of monies have been donated
to ease his discomfort derived from being convicted
of a number of felony crimes against society.

 | Ah. Thank you for explaining, and I do apologize for gushing. It's a

Hey some of us *like* those 'silly female traits'. :D

Well said. I think people don't realise (or they tend to forget!) what a
wealth of expertise is available here. Folowing a few rules is surely a
small price to pay for it...

THE WebDragon admits that I was right all along. Ahh, the killfile.
The last remaining white flag on USENET.

Now now, Drew.

In the past, I've met people from USENET groups, mailing lists and IRC
in real life. For the most part, even the a'h*les were different than
I'd expect them to be. For instance, I was engaged with a *private*
exchange of "flame'ish" email with one person (who I'd disagreed with
ON the mailing list first) for *a whole year*. That's right: one whole
year.

When the mailing list decided to get together for a "round of drinks"
at a local pub, and my "nemesis" was on the list of people who were
going to attend, I'd planned for the worst. My prayers were answered
when my "nemesis" was both emotionally unspirited and socially inept.
I'd expect no more or less from "Ganesha".

So why waste your time and just be disappointed later? :-)

Plus, "Ganesha" is a rank amateur in the business of trolling and
flaming. You'll find a complete list of the "pro's" at
www.killfile.org.

Toodles,

Administrivia:

The Perl-Users Digest is a retransmission of the USENET newsgroup
comp.lang.perl.misc. For subscription or unsubscription requests, send
the single line:

	subscribe perl-users
or:
	unsubscribe perl-users

to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu.

| NOTE: The mail to news gateway, and thus the ability to submit articles
| through this service to the newsgroup, has been removed. I do not have
| time to individually vet each article to make sure that someone isn't
| abusing the service, and I no longer have any desire to waste my time
| dealing with the campus admins when some fool complains to them about an
| article that has come through the gateway instead of complaining
| to the source.

To submit articles to comp.lang.perl.announce, send your article to
clpa@perl.com.

To request back copies (available for a week or so), send your request
to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu with the command "send perl-users x.y",
where x is the volume number and y is the issue number.

For other requests pertaining to the digest, send mail to
perl-users-request@ruby.oce.orst.edu. Do not waste your time or mine
sending perl questions to the -request address, I don't have time to
answer them even if I did know the answer.
