Theres prebuilt binaries for perl5.004_04 that support dynamic loading at
http://www.sco.com/skunkware/whatsnew.html#OSR5
heres the build notes for that version (5.0.4)
Perl5.004_04 (Skunkware98)
These packages contain binary runtimes (SCO OpenServer) and sources and
documentation for perl5 , the swiss-army chainsaw. The version here
corresponds to 5.004_04 and provides a shared lib perl and supports dynamic
loading of perl extension libraries.
Osr5 Build Notes
This version of Perl builds on Osr5 out of the distribution but that built
version is not built as a shared library and doesn't support dynamically
loading libraries.
I didn't get a completed sco hints file done that would build on osr5 this
way but there is the config.sh file I ended up using below that will build
it with dynamic loading supported.
If anyone does work out the changes needed to ./hints/sco.sh
please feel free to forward them to me . Theres an attempt at a modified
sco.sh hints file below
In addition to the above mentioned config.sh for a shared library build you
will also need to modify files
ext/DB_File/Makefile and ext/DB_File/Makefile.PL
so that the line containing -ldb has -lc appended to it
i.e Makefile
EXTRALIBS = -L/usr/local/lib -ldb
LDLOADLIBS = -L/usr/local/lib -ldb
goes to
EXTRALIBS = -L/usr/local/lib -ldb -lc
LDLOADLIBS = -L/usr/local/lib -ldb -lc
Makefile.PL
LIBS => ["-L/usr/local/lib -ldb"],
goes to
LIBS => ["-L/usr/local/lib -ldb -lc"],
otherwise (for some reason) you'll get relocation errors on some symbols
referenced from DB_File.o that should be resolved out of libc when DB_File
is loaded.
Tests
This version passes all the supplied tests
All tests successful.

Modified hints/sco.sh
This is an attempt at modifying the distribution hints file for sco to
support building dynamic lib supporting perl. As it is it doesn't seem to
work to enable shared libperl and use of shared lib loading, The problem
seems to be persuading Configure to find the dlopen and dlerror symbols in
the right libc (I suspect its looking in libc.a rather than libc.so).
Contrary to what the hints comments says Optimisation on (-O) builds fine -
at least on 5.0.5)

If you're having trouble with procmail, the docs, FAQs, and newsgroups
about procmail might be able to help you. Good luck!

Scotch is made in Scotland. Period. End of story.
Whiskey is made all over the world. Malt whiskeys are made all over the
world. But only whiskey brewed, distilled and aged in Scotland may
legally receive the appelation 'Scotch [Whiskey]'. It's a sad state
of affairs when J&B earns any kind of special treatment over Bushmill's.
Champagne can't be produced in California, but sparkling whine can.
Same deal, except I think the Scots are more likely to bludgeon you over
the head with a tree trunk than their distant Gaelic brothers.
>The Macallan 25 and Oban and Bowman are all from Scotland I believe.
Any single malt is from Scotland.

Sparc != 3/260. 3/260 == 'space heater'.

Subject: sybperl error trapping
Message-Id: <70iqfd$8n4$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com>
I am trying to determine when I loose my connection to the database using
eval so that I can attempt to reconnect. I have been unsuccesful so far
because although eval traps the error my entrire process disapears right
after. Has this happened to anyone else or am I doing something very stupid?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Perl does ;-)
But there's some trouble: It handles the make("coffee", "muffins")
subroutines fine, but when it's finished making, it push()es the items
on the @tray and the coffee gets spilled and the muffins are torn to
<CHUNK>s.
I have tried a workaround in which I pipe the coffee to the bitbucket.
Works, technically, but looks ugly on the breakfast table.
The "strict" pragma does not work, either. If I say:
use strict qw(diet); so I have to predeclare the numbers of spoons of
sugar and only can order decaf, again it choke()s and tells me it can't
find the right sugar package.
What can I do ??? :-((

From: Perl-Request@ruby.oce.orst.edu (Perl-Users-Digest Admin)
Subject: Special: Digest Administrivia (Last modified: 12 Mar 98)
Message-Id: <null>
Administrivia:
Special notice: in a few days, the new group comp.lang.perl.moderated
should be formed. I would rather not support two different groups, and I
know of no other plans to create a digested moderated group. This leaves
me with two options: 1) keep on with this group 2) change to the
moderated one.
If you have opinions on this, send them to
perl-users-request@ruby.oce.orst.edu.
The Perl-Users Digest is a retransmission of the USENET newsgroup
comp.lang.perl.misc. For subscription or unsubscription requests, send
the single line:
subscribe perl-users
or:
unsubscribe perl-users
to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu.
To submit articles to comp.lang.perl.misc (and this Digest), send your
article to perl-users@ruby.oce.orst.edu.
To submit articles to comp.lang.perl.announce, send your article to
clpa@perl.com.
To request back copies (available for a week or so), send your request
to almanac@ruby.oce.orst.edu with the command "send perl-users x.y",
where x is the volume number and y is the issue number.
The Meta-FAQ, an article containing information about the FAQ, is
available by requesting "send perl-users meta-faq". The real FAQ, as it
appeared last in the newsgroup, can be retrieved with the request "send
perl-users FAQ". Due to their sizes, neither the Meta-FAQ nor the FAQ
are included in the digest.
The "mini-FAQ", which is an updated version of the Meta-FAQ, is
available by requesting "send perl-users mini-faq". It appears twice
weekly in the group, but is not distributed in the digest.
For other requests pertaining to the digest, send mail to
perl-users-request@ruby.oce.orst.edu. Do not waste your time or mine
sending perl questions to the -request address, I don't have time to
answer them even if I did know the answer.
