Hi, I'm glad to hear you're moving forward on this. I'd like to clear
up one misconception:
> I have been informed that the appropriate locker is linux.
Our primary goal for the Linux port (and the NetBSD port) is to allow
these machines to be as close as possible to Athena workstations.
For instance, the way people should run Maple should be just as it is
on an Athena workstation:
add maple
maple
We are willing to provide disk space in the SIPB AFS cell; for
instance, /mit/maple/linuxbin could be a symlink to
/afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/maple/bin. We don't expect
users to be referencing the linux locker to run programs like Maple,
though.
I have created AFS volumes in the SIPB AFS cell for Maple, Tecplot,
and Xess, given them each a 40MB quota, and given write access to the
three of you (you may need to type "aklog sipb") to get write access.
The following symlinks would be appropriate:
/mit/maple/linuxbin -> /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/maple/bin
/mit/tecplot/linuxbin -> /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/tecplot/bin
/mit/tecplot/linuxlib -> /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/tecplot/lib
/mit/xess/linuxbin -> /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/xess/bin
/mit/xess/linuxlib -> /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/linux/lockers/xess/lib
If you wish to use space in the Athena AFS cell for any of these
packages instead, that's fine; just tell us and we'll erase the
symlinks.

I have set up accounts for the three of you on
quiche-lorraine.mit.edu. The easiest way to use those accounts is to
do:
telnet -safe glacier
We have it set up like the dialup servers, so it will ask you to type
your password over an encrypted connection. This will get tickets and
attach your home directory, like logging into the dialups.
Please tell us if you have any other questions.
