1) Greg Hudson so kindly pointed out to me that I may be entertaining
the false assumption that anyones about vi besides me. Sadly
accepting this possibility, I just installed elvis 1.7 and the
associated hard links and programs.
2) The version of tar installed was 1.10, which does not understand
the .gz extension. I installed 1.11.2. The old version is in
/usr/bin/tar.old.
Please tell me if installing this stuff directly on quiche is wrong.
The sources are in /afs/sipb/project/linux/ckclark.
