Hello. You wrote:

I tried to run rn from /mit/sipb/linuxbin on a new account that doesn't
have .newsrc and News/ in the homedir. I get the error:

Trying to set up a .newsrc file--running newsetup...

Creating /home/foo/.newsrc to be used by news programs.
    /mit/sipb/linuxbin/newsetup: /mit/sipb/lib/rrn/@sys/getactive: No such
    file or directory

Can't create a .newsrc--you must do it yourself.

Three things:

1) This should have been sent to bug-sipb. linux-dev is just the
group that ported Athena to Linux, and is basically not responsible
for bugs in Linux programs in athena lockers.

2) I'd recommend trying "trn". It's newer, more featurful, and less
buggy than rrn. And it has an almost identical user interface.

3) /mit/sipb/lib/rrn/@sys/getactive does exist. And I tried running
rn on Linux from a new account ("sipbtest") and it works. Did you
have tokens in the sipb cell? If not, the afs-nfs translator won't
resolve @sys. (The real afs client might resolve it, but is less
predictable.)
