Hi. Over the summer, SIPB has been working on an installation of
Debian that includes Athena services like AFS, Kerberos, Zephyr etc.
This is not a port of Athena to Debian; SIPB is for the time not in
the business of doing Athena ports.
Instead sipb-debian is a version of Debian that is more useful to
people who want the ability to usefully interact with Athena than the
default Debian install. We
believe it will be particularly useful to laptop users, especially
before IS rolls out the disconnected Athena support.
We're working through our last issues and hope to have it available to
users by Friday.
We're wondering whether sending sipb-debian related announcements to
linux-announce would be appropriate. If so, we'll ask people
installing sipb-debian to subscribe themselves to linux-announce.
Otherwise we will create another list.
We have a similar question for linux-help; should we create a special
help list for sipb-debian or just ask people to send mail to
linux-help?
Finally, I hope to be sending out a pointer to a document that gives
users advice on whether they want to install IS Linux Athena or SIPB
Debian later; I would appreciate any feedback on that document.
