New video card?

I saw a post on comp.windows.i386.unix that said that XFree 1.2
supports the ATI card, and the only thing that's missing is the
support for the accelerator. So I decided that a slow good card is
better than a slow bad card, and reinstalled the new video card, and
banged on Xconfig until it worked. It's working now, in 800x600 mode,
at about the same speed as the old card. It looks nice.
Now for the bad news: I cant put in 1024x768 mode. This is because it
only detects 512k RAM on the card. I can tell it in the Xconfig that
there's 1024k on the card, but then things break. So, either the
store screwed me over and gave me a card with just 512k, or the card
is broken, or I haven't correctly told X how to access the whole meg,
or something. I dont know.
Oh well. It looks really nice in 800x600 mode.
