ah ha! we now have boot disks. they even hit second stage.

derek was correct about the cpio format, he even remembered the
syntax correctly. (grr, stupid install process...)

yeah, I frobbed in a couple of ways. we now have 2 boot disks in
/mit/linux/devel/redhat/6.2/trees-3c905/images:
bootnet.all.new.drivers.img is set to use the 3c90x driver for *all*
3c9xxcards. bootnet.img is set to use the 3c90x driver for only the
3c905c and the 3c980. The latter is preferred, but we have both should
the need arise.

snork's problem appears to be much simpler. it has 2 NICs. the cable
isn't plugged into the first one.

I'm going to recommend tothe user that they try the new bootnet.img,
and if that fails the bootnet.all.new.drivers.img.
