Hi,
I thought I'd let you know of a couple of unusual experiences I had with the SIPB installer for linux-athena based on RH6.2. I hope this is the right list.
1. I was not asked where I wanted lilo installed. It assumed, and overwrote my MBR, which is bad when you're trying to use the win2k loader like I am. Thus I was unable to use the installer to dual-boot & had to do a layered install.
2. The SIPB installer, as well as any RH6.2 installer it seems, leaves some Athlon machines unbootable. The kernel apparently panics at the CPU detection stage when it tries to disable serial-id (which is a feature required of p3s from what I gather). I could get my kernel running by specifying "linux x86_serial_nr=1" at the LILO prompt. Installing an i386 kernel instead of an i686 also helps, and probably upgrading to 2.2.16 fixes this. But you need to know about x86_serial_nr to get your machine up the first time, or you'll have hell like I did.
