So I've been looking at the installer sources in
/afs/sipb/system/rhlinux/redhat-6.2/misc/src/ (why didn't we use
/mit/linux/devel/redhat like all the previous releases?) It looks
like someone has tried to change the first-stage installer to know
about MIT's information. I can see a few bugs just from initial
inspection, but that's not what I'm trying to ask about here.
What I'd like to know is who was working on the boot floppy, where the
build trees are, and how the boot floppy failed to build?
FWIW, I'll probably be on campus this afternoon and I'd like to try to
get this working, if possible.

PS: in /mit/linux/devel/ there was a complete set of Makefiles to
build all the installer sub-systems in the correct order. Granted,
they would have to be modified for 6.2, but it would have been nice to
have a starting point.
