This sounds like your friend is using the old version of the installer,
which makes sense because I neglected to mention that my changes have
not been incorporated into the version that everyone is testing, yet.
My apologies.  I suggest you try pointing the installer to

ni:/afs/sipb/system/rhlinux/redhat-6.2

...and try that, instead.  You may not want to go through the whole
install, though, as I found it to be very slow (1 hr 45 min just to
install the packages.)  At any rate, this has an "Athena Workstation"
option, and it didn't ask me about any packages at all.  I assume the
package instructions are contained in the AthenaWorkstation class that
is also used in the gui install, in which case the packages installed
would be exactly the same.

That makes getting rid of the other package options sound like a good
idea all round.  Is there any reason not to leave just the Athena and
Custom install options?
