I successfully installed onto myxomycete.mit.edu (a desktop with a K6
processor, IDE disk, 3C509 network card, serial mouse).
It fell back to text mode, after not being able to find my mouse.
I selected custom install, and when the list of packages came up, I
unselected a variety of other options, so that I had only the "athena
workstation" option (this was sort of confusing). Sam fixed the fact
that in text mode, there was a user account creation screen and a screen
that asked you if you wanted shadow passwords, etc. so in my final try
I didn't see these.
When the system came up, it was functional. I've since modified the
X configurations, and some minor network configs (tunnel weirdness),
but nothing else. I noticed that /var/athena/release-rpms exists but
is empty. The machine has linux hesiod, and appears to have scheduled
an update.
I'll send more mail if it doesn't appear to update successfully.
When I've verified that everything's fine with this system, I may dig
up a normal mouse, and see if the graphical installer works for me.
