Please get it out of your head that ctrl-alt-+ will ever be a
reasonable solution to any kind of resolution problem.  An X display
has a single size, which cannot change without restarting the server
and all clients.  XFree86 can arrange to show only part of the X
display on the screen at a time, but as a user you really don't want
to be in the position of having a 1280x1024 view into a 1600x1280
display; everything will be wrong.
