Thanks for the tip on RH 5.2 _ Athena fonts.
If you're trying to pin down the problem with the fonts, here's another
glitch I have in runlevel 5 logins:
The quick font fix worked, but the background for my login screen is
still not a solid grey. It is made up of horizontil stripes about 100
pixels tall. Every other stripe is grey. Every other stripe is white.
The white stripes each have vertile dotted lines in them. There are several
colors of dotted verticle lines. The grey horizontil stripes have no dotted
lines and are the same color as the login background in Rh-A 4.2.
With the font fix, karlm's backgound is the correct color after login.
However, root has the same background as the login screen. root has only
the background, a console window and an unboardered xterm window when he logs
in. I believe this is because root hasn't specified a window manager. root
appearently uses fwvm95 as a default window manager only when in runlevel 5.
